Cotton at Home

A natural, eco-friendly décor is as much a part of a way of life as eating natural and organic food. This may sound a little far-stretched but only in the beginning.

If you think about it, our homes are our most private sanctuaries; that itself should be reason enough to be concerned about what we use around in our homes.

For instance, cotton is the first choice in home décor because being natural, it is non-toxic and does not release chemicals that diminish the quality of the air in our homes. This is apart from the fact it is perfectly safe to wear it against our skin as well.

Plus, made of nature, it is naturally soft and comfortable, it can be used in various forms, it is strong and durable, and it is biodegradable and recyclable.

It doesn't irritate sensitive skin or cause allergies either.

Not surprising then why many people choose not just cotton throw-pillows, rugs, and slipcovers, but also cotton table, bed and bath linen as well. You will also find cotton homes warm and inviting - the crisp, brightly coloured cotton cushions, curtains, sheets and floor mats bring rich colours into the rooms that reflect the joys of a happy and a healthy life.

Turn your home into a cotton home in 6 quick, easy steps:

  1. Get cotton swabs. Choose to use only cotton balls and rounds for personal hygiene and antiseptic needs.
  2. Switch to cotton in feminine hygiene products. Unlike many conventional tampons, cotton tampons are not chlorine-bleached and do not release cancer-causing dioxins into the environment. That’s not all. According to The National Research Center for Women & Families, a study sponsored by the FDA Office of Women's Health found detectable levels of dioxins in seven brands of tampons. It sure makes sense to use cotton tampons and sanitary napkins, doesn’t it?
  3. Buy cotton baby toys. Baby toys are some of the most chewed and nibbled upon things in the world. That is why, when you buy your little one soft toys, buy cotton baby toys that are usually stuffed with wool. It naturally inhibits bacterial growth.
  4. Let your pets go cotton too. Now a wide range of pet beds, cushions and accessories are available in cotton.
  5. Be it nightgowns to wedding gowns, ask for cotton. Whatever you want to wear, chances are you will easily find it in cotton.
  6. Make sure all home linen (bed and bath) is made with cotton. Upholstery deserves cotton too. Also, when you buy a cotton mattress, you reduce your dependency on fossil fuels and also reduce the cancer-causing VOCs released into the air.
